Gohar Vardanyan and I have a very exciting partnership. Gohar
Vardanyan has been teaching English at Nor Hachn High School for 31 years
and loves poetry and proverbs. I teach journalism and global studies in
Belgrade, Montana. We decided to involve our students in a collaboration of
American and Armenian poetry, proverbs, and culture. Initially our students
will become acquainted by writing stories to each other about Montana
culture and life and Armenian culture and life. Next our students will
exchange acrostic poems of their names. Then the Armenian and Montanan
students will share shape poems that are symbolic of Armenian or Montana
life. We will study famous Armenian and American poets and emulate their
styles in the next exchange.
Finally, we will share and explain Armenian and American proverbs
through our Internet discussions.
Every student involved in this project will then receive a published copy of
the shared stories, poems, and proverbs.
