U.S. School: Toll Middle School
Location: LaCrescenta, California
Armenian School: Ashtarak Secondary School #1
Location: Aragatsotn region, Ashtarak
Project Harmony's mission is to build a strong global community. The partnership between Siran Khoetsyan from Ashtarak, Armenia, and Angie Mathevosian from Glendale, California will create a small community of students and teachers who share mutual interests and are willing to learn from each other. Our project's theme is, "Knowing each other," and the title is, "Autobiography". In this project, students will not only get to know each other's culture, values, interests and families, but they will also discuss the current events in their countries. Since peace and harmony is the focus of this project, students will discuss war and its effects on people's lives. Students from both countries will become friends, who under their teacher's guidance, will strenghten their world views, and will become more interested in other people's lives and customs. Their friendship will be built on trust and understanding, because Project Harmony's mission and vision are rooted in "cultual understanding and respecting each other's values and beliefs." Since the 21st century is the era of computer and advanced technology, our partnership will give the students the opportunity to communicate via the Internet, which is a venue to improve the skills necessary for a modern society.
We believe that our partnership will not only make a difference in our students' lives, but also, we teachers will learn from each other by exchanging ideas, experiences, and specialities. With online projects, we will build bridges of mutual understanding and create a fine relationship. Staying with the host's family, visiting schools, and meeting some of the community members, made us feel like cultural ambassadors who are devoted and committed to working towards the betterment of our schools and communities.
By the end of this project, approximately 15 students from Ashtarak, Armenia, and 15 students from Glendale, California will increase awareness and knowledge of peers' lives, regions and heritage, and they will improve their technology skills.
