Teacher Projects:
Margie Cooper & Guler Mammadzadeh
U.S. School: Nancy Creek Theme School
Azerbaijan School: Sumqayit School #27
Margie Cooper has been a middle school gifted teacher for almost 10 years. She will work with English Language Learners in her
multi-ethnic school. Guler Mammadzadeh is a young English teacher, who was awarded ACE’s Certificate for the best international
partnership for joining the Global Coalition, where her students interact with their peers from all over the world. Guler is
coordinating several international partnerships with schools in the United States as well.
Margie and Guler will ask their students to compare and contrast their respective daily lives with the images of U.S. students
as presented by media (TV, movies, magazines, etc). They will use PowerPoint to create digital scrapbooks. The creation of these
scrapbooks will involve a detailed introspection of their daily lives, as well as a survey of U.S. media portrayal of student life.
Once they compare and contrast these two views of U.S. student life, they will discuss the following: generalizations, stereotypes,
prejudices, judgements, and labels. Accompanying the discussions will be lessons in logic about all statements, no statements, and
syllogisms.
