  Program Overview
During the first half of 2003, two dozen Russian libraries will benefit from the expertise provided by an Information Professional-in-Residence being hosted by Project Harmony in Petrozavodsk, Russia. Paul Miller, the Professional in Residence, is heading up a six-month development program being implemented by Project Harmony on behalf of the US Embassy in Moscow, Russia to oversee the US Department of State's American Corners in Russia (ACR) program.

The ACR consists of two dozen small American-style libraries, called Corners, housed throughout Russia within larger Russian libraries. The Corners offer books, magazines, videos and other library materials about America to local citizens. The IPIR will be working with the librarians who run these Corners to raise the program's profile through a public relations campaign, to obtain supplemental funding, and to strengthen the chartered association that they have founded. In addition to providing supplemental professional training to librarians, the IPIR will produce online newsletters and other publications for potential donors, and will be work with Corners directors to improve their online presence.
