Participants are required to spend at least fifteen working days in a business internship, preferably with no more than two separate businesses. Host Businesses need to prepare their staff who will work with the participant. Useful materials for this preparation include the professional profile of the participant, the calendar for the program, and the Host Business Handbook. The more information provided to participants prior to their visits, the more prepared they will be to begin their internship. Helpful materials include details on your business's history, mission statement, organizational chart, annual reports, financial information, business and marketing plans, and any other items pertinent to your business.
Primary responsibilities of host businesses include:
Completing a Host Business Application form at the beginning of the program and an evaluation form at the end of the program (this is your only paperwork!)
Preparing a work space and work materials as appropriate
Evaluating the participant's potential to work on actual projects or to job shadow
Assigning a person or team to advise the participant in her/his time with your company
Assisting host families and program staff to arrange transportation for the participant to come to work
Creating a full schedule of opportunities so the participant can learn as much as possible about your business
Contacting Project Harmony staff if there are any concerns, questions, or successes to celebrate

Host businesses are not required to provide the participant with a host family, although having a host family within your company will ease the logistics of the internship and often enhances the experience for everyone involved. Host businesses are not obligated to create any business partnerships with the participant. Long-term employment for the participant is forbidden by the participant's visa status. Host businesses are strictly volunteers and should not expect to incur any expenses (such as for meals or transportation) on behalf of the participant. Participants receive per diem allowances from Project Harmony to cover incidental expenses; host businesses are not permitted to pay or compensate participants during the internship. Project Harmony and the United States government provide all participants with medical insurance during their stay in the United States; host businesses are not liable for accidental illnesses or injuries that might befall a participant.
