  Mini-Grant Recipients

Project Harmony awarded mini-grants to thirteen Internet development projects in Togliatti and Samara. These projects range from training seminars for civics teachers to seminars for businesswomen. All thirteen projects were implemented by June 2000.

Batyanov, Maksim Vladimirovich
Place of Employment:  Samara State University
Theme:  Thematic seminar for lawyers

Description:   The goal of this project is to increase the level of technical knowledge of attorneys specializing in small business law and increase their practical experience in working with Internet technologies. To realize this goal, this grantee plans to hold six seminars on the theme "The Use of Internet Technology in Jurisprudence." During these seminars, participants will study computer programs and learn about the many on-line resources available. This training will allow participants to increase their effectiveness at work and better serve their clients. As part of this project, legal professionals from commercial firms, area law professors and members of the Union of Attorneys of Samara Oblast will take part in the training sessions.

Theme:  Web-site creation

Description:   This web project, called "Invest Russia," seeks to create a bi-lingual site with a searchable, self-replenishing on-line database of participants in international investment. This project will attract more foreign investment to Russia by increasing the volume of open and widely available standardized information about possible investments and investment projects throughout Russia, including Samara Oblast. Russian citizens will be able to advertise their proposals to potential foreign investors by registering their projects on the site or by getting in touch with concrete investors using the on-line database.

Theme:  Seminars for Samara civics teachers

Description:   This seminar series, which focuses on preparing civics teachers from middle schools throughout Samara, includes:  
1. Training civic teachers in the use of Internet
2. Acquainting civic teachers with Internet resources on civic education and discussing with educators the value of these resources
3. Creating methodological material for civics teachers to use in their professional activities
4. Creating a thematic web page to be housed on the Center for Education Development's web site. The project is aimed at civics teachers from middle schools in Samara. The targeted number of participants is 96.
The goal of the project is to use methodological material and seminar results to improve civics teaching in Samara and to help foster active citizens.

Yefrosinin, Vasily Viktorovich

Theme:  Effective use of Internet resources in teaching civics

Description:   This project envisions a series of organizational, methodological and technical seminars promoting the effective use of Internet teaching civics in Togliatti schools.
In the realization of this project:  
1. A booklet entitled "Effective Use of Internet Resources in Civic Education in Togliatti City Schools" will be developed and published.
2. Four seminars will be conducted:   "About Internet Technologies and their Use in Improving Civic Education for School Children," "Civics and Distance Learning," "Internet Searching for Creating Civics Lessons," "About the Use of Internet Technologies in the Search for Sources of Financing of School-based Initiatives".
3. A chat-conference will be conducted for civics teachers in Togliatti and Samara, who participated in the program "I Am a Citizen".
4. A website will be created on the Development Through Education (DTE) server "Where and How to Find Money to Support Civic Projects".
5. A database of civic education lessons and methodological material will be created and housed on the DTE server.
6. A quarterly version of a bulletin entitled "Democracy and Us" will be published on the DTE server.

Zhityayeva, Oksana Ivanovna

Theme:  Seminars for civil servants

Description:   This project envisions a series of four, three-day seminars for civil servants and includes:  
1. A presentation on the potential for and future development of the Internet
2. Getting acquainted with the basic principles of Internet use in public administration work.
3. Training on WWW information searches working with on-line databases
4. Training on work with e-mail.
The trainings will include employees from different public administrative bodies throughout Samara Oblast and will reach about 50 people.

Kalachyov Evgeni Vladimirovich

Theme:  Thematic web conference, consultations, and presentation of traditional and innovative models of work with public administrative organizations; creation of a web site to promote public administration in educational organizations and the protection of children's rights.

Description:   This project envisions the creation of a thematic web page with dynamic and static models of self-government. It also calls for the creation of models for thematic school newspapers and for the creation of a structure of public administration. It seeks to develop civic education games to make the learning process more enjoyable. It also will develop temporary organs of public administration, will create draft laws and acts, and conduct a conference with consultants on the issues of public administration in educational organizations and the rights of children. It will also strive to disseminate present information about changes in laws concerning the rights and obligations of all participants. A listserv and a newspaper which provides information to school children on their rights will be published on-line. The creation of a database on organizations for pupils and civic education in Russia is included.

Theme:  Seminar series:   "Women and Business in the 21st Century"

Description:   This project aims to help women in small business and medium-size enterprises get better acquainted with investment policies and on-line marketing via a series of Internet seminars. A three-day seminar is planned for women from Samara Oblast (30 participants), as well as a teleconference, and creation of a web site "Twenty Portraits of Women Leaders in Samara Oblast."

Theme::  On-line information directory "Business Incubator" with weekly on-line publication of "Business Environment"

Description::   This project will create a portal so citizens of Togliatti can quickly find information about businesses in Togliatti and will share information with interested parties via a listserv.

Theme:  Creation of a web site to negotiate available legal resources

Description:   This project calls for the creation of a web resource with the goal of organizing an "on ramp" to legal resources in Russian and optimizing searches for information in the Internet. The task of the project is to create a clear presentation of available information on legal resources and make it easier for users to access this information. The project's task is to create an annotated list of resources and links to different sites -- touching on every branch and division of law.

Theme:  Seminars for public administrators dealing with issues concerning drug use among youths

Description:   Within this project, a seminar for retraining specialists in public administrative branches dealing with youth issues in Samara and Samara Oblast will be held. In addition, the project will organize a thematic teleconference.

Theme:  Protection of ecological rights using the Internet

Description:   This project will create and update a database on ecological rights, which can be visited at www.ecology.samara.ru, as well as create an on-line consultation site for people with questions about their ecological rights.

Theme:  Rights of students in modern society

Description:   This project will attract students from institutes of higher education in Samara, Togliatti, and Syzran to discuss important questions students face nowadays, especially those concerning their democratic participation in society. It will also seek to explain the rights of students and their influence on culture and society in Samara Oblast.

Description:   This site will function both as a listing of jobs available in Togliatti and as a portal to other employment sites on the web. Information on interviewing skills and resumes will also be featured on the web site.
