Program Overview |
The Information Dissemination and Equal Access Project (IDEA) strives to make access to computers universal throughout the Russian Federation. Through the support of Microsoft Corporation's Unlimited Potential Program, over 3700 people have been trained in computer use through the free-access IDEA Centers housed in community buildings in towns all over the country.
Trainers in IDEA Centers offer Microsoft-based courses that range from basic computer skills to advanced design classes. Trainees earn a certificate upon the successful completion of a course, and these certificates can mean higher earnings as the newly trained secure white collar positions that they would not otherwise have had the skills to hold. They can also mean the ability to secure grants to tackle community problems, or the ability to study for college entrance exams in rural areas. For people with disabilities the importance of free computer access and special software is even greater, and through IDEA Centers they may experience connection with the outside world, independence, and a new way to learn. These are a few of examples of the way that IDEA focuses on improving opportunities for socially and economically disadvantaged population groups.
Project Harmony works with partner institutions throughout Russia to run 30 IDEA Centers. For more information on the IDEA Program, please visit: http://idea-russia.ru/eng/.
