2001 On-line Program in Pskov, Russia

In the winter of 2001, Project Harmony ran a professional development program for U.S. educators in Pskov, Russia. The participant group consisted of veteran teachers and administrators, as well as in-service teachers in their last year of undergraduate study. They hailed from points as disparate as the mountains of Vermont, the coast of North Carolina and the suburbs of Detroit.

This program represented Project Harmony's first attempt to open up the educator program experience to others -- students, teachers, colleagues and friends and Russia and the United States -- via the Internet. Our aim was to create an interactive learning community in which people of all ages and interests could share their curiosity and their commitment to cross-cultural exploration.

Above you will find links to information relating to the program and the people involved. We have left the web pages as they appeared during the program, in order to provide a sense of the virtual participant's experience. Students and educators in classrooms in various states followed our On-line Journal and, as you will see, took advantage of the opportunity to Join the Dialogue.

Upon their return to the US, participants from North Carolina State University created a website that chronicles their trip, and introduces education, history and culture in Pskov: 2001 Great Adventure to Pskov
