2000 Program Results: Participants' Community Pact

All of the program participants collaborated to produce a Community Pact - a list of guidelines and expectations which all participants and staff agreed to uphold. The participants created the Pact during an exercise that emphasized participatory methods of developing and strengthening a democratic community. Throughout the three-week program, participants and program staff returned to the Pact to evaluate it and make appropriate changes to it. The Pact was a useful guideline for responding to tensions that occasionally arose within the group, which served to make the students better able to prevent conflicts.
