Project Harmony

Highlights of TAP 2005

"Moon is shining bright, and I wake up in Texas.
FLEX TAP in Vermont has already found its end.
People all around me don't seem to understand it.
My project, my ideas, as well as you all did.
And I can't sleep…I can't sleep.
Now we all are ready to make the earth much better.
Thank you Bonnie, Carrie, Kathy and Paul!
These 10 days have given us so much to remember,
Making new friends and achieving new goals.
And I can't sleep….I can't sleep.
Please, please, please take me back to my Vermont!"
       ~Song by Olga Shirobokova, Russia

In this, the third year of implementing the FLEX Technology Ambassadors Program, Project Harmony enabled 31 FLEX students from 12 countries of the former Soviet Union to step closer to their dream of becoming ambassadors of change in their own communities. Beginning in January, students selected for this program worked intensively in an online community to research and develop project ideas around a social issue of personal concern.

Topics included domestic and sexual violence, human rights, environmental issues, youth and media, democratic development and youth activism. In March, students joined Project Harmony staff and trainers on the campus of Middlebury College in Middlebury, VT to transform their ideas into community development projects. Every student participating in the program learned technology and leadership skills, and completed the production of a digital story to be presented to community groups both in the United States and in their home countries.
