Dear FLEX Students,
Welcome to the online event. We are excited to have you as a participant. Before filling out the application to participate, you will need to expand your understanding of the topics of discussion. This is especially important because you will need to write five (5) appropriate questions to ask Ms. Logsdon. These questions can relate to:
- The future of US-Eurasian Relations
- The work that Ms. Logsdon does as the Deputy Director of the State Department's Office of Public Diplomacy in the Bureau of European Affairs
- Ms. Logsdon’s previous and current professional experiences
- The impact of exchange programs in Eurasian countries
- Other relevant issues that interest you
To help you write these questions, first complete the three (3) homework assignments below. After you complete the homework, please fill out the application form, including your five (5) questions.
HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT 1: MICHELLE LOGSDON’S BIOGRAPHY
Read Ms. Logsdon’s biography to learn more about her and her work. Write at least one (1) question based on the information that you learn in this biography.
Michelle Logsdon became Deputy Director of the State Department's Office of Public Diplomacy in the Bureau of European Affairs in August 2002, and currently handles the portfolio for Eurasia, the Nordics and the Baltics. Her most recent overseas assignment was as Information Officer in Bangkok, Thailand. From 1995-1998, Ms. Logsdon served as Public Affairs Officer in Almaty, Kazakhstan. She has also served in
Karachi, Pakistan, in Stuttgart, Germany, and in East Berlin, in the German Democratic Republic. Her previous Washington-based assignment was as Deputy Policy Officer in the United States Information Agency Office of Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs.
Michelle Logsdon is married to Foreign Service Officer Kent Logsdon, and has one daughter.

This discussion occurred in January 2003 between FLEX students from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan with another expert, Steve Hart. Mr. Hart is Deputy Assistant Secretary for Professional Exchanges in the State Department Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Some of the questions that these students asked may inspire you!
