  In Their Own Words
Project Harmony alumni share their thoughts on what participating in Project Harmony programs has meant to them.

"The program inspired us to act, to do something. It showed us that change is possible."

Feruza Alimbaeva, Kyrgyzstan, TAP 2004 alumna

"Thanks to my experience in the US, I was able to evaluate the situation in my country and have some ideas about democracy and justice. Thank you for everything!"

Aliya Suranova, 2004 TAP alumna

"I grew up seeing all the bad parts of my life as a very big obstacle that would be ended only by a miracle. Now I know that youth have power, maybe even more than some adults do. I now have all these ideas that are going to help me realize my project. The TAP program is sending me back as a different person. I want to teach people how they can live better, how they can overcome that huge difference between our country and the civilized world."

Lilia Fusa, Moldova TAP 2004 participant

"E-learning gives a wonderful opportunity for people of remote regions to access updated information and knowledge."

Karina Madylova, Kyrgyzstan

"The personal bonds created between participants of PH programs transcend all political boundaries and in essence are world peace in its most pure form. As a Vietnam veteran and child of the 60s, I always thought I'd like to find a way to reverse what I'd seen and experienced there. PH offered me a vehicle to do so, if only on a small scale. But I believe that the many small efforts by organizations like PH have, globally, more meaning and validity than most political systems efforts at establishing world peace. It has also been a terrific experience being caught up in the enthusiasm and dedication of PH staffers and project participants. Who knew you could have so much fun while making a difference?"

Tom Woods, Law Enforcement Exchange Program to Petrozavodsk, 1994, Domestic Violence Community Partnership Program in Tbilisi, 2001

"What was most meaningful to me about participating in a Project Harmony Program? Knowledge I've got in fund-raising, Program Evaluation, Vulunteerism, Development of Case statement, self-evaluation approach to the staff management. These are issues, some of which already had been implemented in my organization as soon as I was back, and some are going to be implemented."

Medea Kakachia, Community Connections Professional Exchange/NGOs, July 10-31, 2001, Cincinati OH, hosting organization-IVC
